«Hyundai Motor Company» - South Korean automaker. The largest automaker in the country and fourth in the world. Headquarters - in Seoul.

The company was founded in 1967 by Chung Ju-Yong. Included in the group (chaebol) Hyundai, from which was isolated in 2003. In 1960 the company engaged in production of several cars and a truck model, the American company Ford.

In the in 1972 the Government of South Korea's gave the the right to produce cars four companies, of one of which and became a Hyundai. In the in 1974 began the production of subcompact Hyundai Pony, over the external overlooking which the have worked the wizard from the Italian ateliers Pininfarina. By 1980 the group had to produce 50,000 cars a year with the localization of component production to 91%, which was done. The first generation of the popular and nowadays sedan Sonata appeared in autumn 1988 and in 1996 the production went sports car Coupe.

In 1998, Hyundai has absorbed the Korean automakers Kia Motors. In 2000 the company entered into a strategic alliance with DaimlerChrysler, which existed for several years. As of 2006 consisting of five companies Hyundai plant in Ulsan Korean city was regarded as the largest carmaker in the world.
