In 1909, Wilhelm Maybach founded Luftfahrzeug-Motorenbau GmbH, which produced a powerful aircraft engines for the airship "Zeppelin."
In 1912 the company moved to Friedrichshafen, renamed Motorenbau GmbH.
In 1919 he established the first experimental model of a car company (Maybach W1). In 1921 introduced the first industrial design (Maybach W3).
After the Second World War, car production was stopped.
In 1960 the company was acquired by concern Daimler.
In November 2011 guidance Daimler has decided to release folding cars Maybach. The reason - could not compete in the segment of luxury cars. The project has not reached the level of self-sufficiency.
