SsangYong Motor Company - Korean engineering company, the fourth largest producer of passenger cars in Korea. Headquartered in Seoul.
The name SsangYong means "two dragons".
The company was founded in 1954 (then known as Ha Dong-hwan Motor Company) and began its activities with the production of military jeeps. In 1977 the name changed to Dong-A Motor. At this time, the company engaged in the production of buses, trucks and machinery.
In 1986 he came under the control of the corporation Ssangyong Business Group, and in 1988 changed its name to SsangYong Motor. In 1988, SUV sales start Korando Family. In 1991 he started technological cooperation with the Corporation Daimler-Benz. In 1993 started the production of SUV Musso, then the same 5% of the company was bought by a corporation Daimler-Benz. In 1997 a controlling stake in the company was bought by another Korean automaker Daewoo Motors. In the 2000 financial crisis forced the company to sell its stake in Daewoo. At the end of 2008, the company declared itself bankrupt.
